Who We Are

A Source of Hope

At Family & Children Services, who we are is a reflection of those we serve, their immediate and long-term needs, and our mission to support them in times of crisis and transition. We provide an integrated continuum of care for youth and families in Southwest Michigan. Our focus is on stabilizing and strengthening individuals and families, and ensuring that all youth have a safe, nurturing place to call home.

Our programs are designed to provide the right forms of support at the right time for families and individuals who need resources. Our continuum of care includes crisis intervention services, counseling, home and community-based mental health, family preservation and parenting support, foster care, and foster care to adoption services.

In addition to our direct services, we collaborate with many state, county, and local organizations to coordinate the broader range of services our clients often need.

We support community members with an open heart and an open mind – honoring who they are by helping them build on their strengths. This work is grounded in our values of Respect, Integrity, Service, and Empowerment (RISE). Our fundamental goal is to provide all whom we serve with the confidence, skills, and resources to succeed, individually and within families.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is a key facet of Family & Children Services’ strategic plan. We recognize that a workforce that more accurately reflects and understands the people and community it serves, creates more positive outcomes.

We also recognize that each individual, child, and family that turns to us as a source of hope, has experienced a unique set of challenges and barriers in their lives. The effects of poverty, substance use, domestic and neighborhood violence, racial inequities, inadequate mental health services, and generations of abuse and neglect make accessing resources difficult.

These factors have proven to have a long-term impact on a parent’s ability to provide a safe, healthy, and stable household for their families and support the educational and emotional needs of their children. The commitment of the Agency is to do all we can to ensure that we have the highest trained and informed staff to meet the diverse needs and challenges our clients face, both today and into the future.
