My Professional Philosophy:
Together, we will build a safe compassionate and respectful relationship in which you can listen to yourself, know yourself, and share your story. We will work towards strength, balance and meaning in life. Together with you, we will focus therapy on discovery and awareness of your thoughts, feelings & strengths. We will explore your history and learn how your experiences have impacted you and your current challenges. We will aim to decrease your suffering and enhance your feelings of well being. I will answer your questions with sensitivity and compassion and speak with you honestly. I will enable you to guide your own growth & healing and to make healthy choices.

Experience:
After working in NYC and Princeton, New Jersey, I moved to California and worked in Sacramento with Inpatient Child Psychiatry and supervised the Counselors at the University of California, Davis’s Women’s Free Clinic. After this, I moved to Kalamazoo and worked as a clinical consultant and group therapist at the YWCA’s Sexual Assault Program for many years

I have been an outpatient therapist at Family and Children Services since 1988 and I have worked part time at the Parkwood Upjohn School as a School-Based therapist since 2007.

Special Interests:
For the past 40 years, I have worked with and advocated for people of all ages, stages, communities, cultures and life styles. I have a Psychodynamic Perspective but I utilize additional therapeutic styles depending on your need. This can include but is not limited to: Mindfulness Meditation, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Solution Focused therapy, Humanistic Therapy, Play Therapy and Structural Family Therapy.

I specialize in therapy with children and families. I am interested in issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, and adjustment to life changes, behavioral acting out, anger expression & management, academic and career success, self esteem, health care, loss and grief, relationships, and parenting.

I recently participated in the Field Trials for Clinical Research for the draft of the DSM 5 and have expertise in Assessment and Diagnosis. I supervise Advanced Interns in Clinical Social Work, Psychology, Art Therapy and Marriage and Family Therapy. I have Certifications in Advanced Child, Youth and Family Social Work and Health Care Social Work.
