Foster Care Licensing Specialist Rochelle Brown attended the Breakfast Table in Calhoun County this past weekend with her kids Cameron and JaNiece, as well as her neice Daliyah! The family talked about what it takes to be a foster parent, how to get licensed, and what we do here at the Agency. Based on the inability to say no to these adorable faces, we assume we'll be enjoying a slew of new foster parents soon! Thanks Rochelle!

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865 when Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that over 250,000 enslaved people were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by President Abraham Lincoln.

Juneteenth reminds us how the miseducation (or deliberate misinformation) of a peoples harms so many. For two years, enslaved Texans remained enslaved despite their freedom already being awarded due to enslavers not telling them of their freedom.

We at Family & Children Services recognize that a workforce that more accurately reflects and understands the people and community it serves, creates more positive outcomes for all. Part of our desire to include and celebrate everyone is joining in the nation to celebrate "America's second Indepdence Day" today.

We are committed to supporting our most under resourced and marginalized community members in any way we can. One way we do that, and have fun in the process, is walking in the Do Dah Parade and manning a booth at Kalamazoo Pride.

We want the LGBTQ+ community to know they are valued, safe, and supported by the Agency. We serve many clients of the LGBTQ+ community, value our same sex foster parents and staff, and are thrilled to join them in their joy and celebration.

Things can feel overwhelming and anxious right now but we wanted to remind the community that we are a source of hope. And hope is contagious.
