My Professional Philosophy:
I believe that most people come to counseling after many attempts to solve their problem other ways, but have found that those efforts have not led to an outcome that fits, or has been able to last over time. Counseling provides an opportunity to explore aspects of one’s self and relationships in ways that lead to increased awareness and greater fulfillment and meaning in relationships and various aspects of one’s life. The counseling experience is a unique journey for each individual, couple and family. The relationship that we will develop is a central component to that journey.

My theoretical orientation lends itself to an interpersonal, existential, psychodynamic way of working with individual clients. When working with couples, I pull from research based couples therapy approaches including: Imago Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy and Gottman Couples Therapy. For my work with families, I employ family systems approaches, incorporating attachment needs, which look at how all members interact and impact one another through the relationships they share. Whether working with an individual, couple or family, I am hopeful that together we will embark on a counseling journey that will lead to greater self-esteem, more satisfying relationships and increased awareness, meaning and fulfillment.

Experience:
I work with clients from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, anger issues, life transitions, stress, and self-esteem among others. Settings in which I have provided counseling services include school based, private practice and Family & Children Services outpatient counseling center. My training includes specialized study and instruction in Gottman Couples Therapy, as well as Imago couples therapy.

Education:
I received my BBA from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. My MA in Counselor Education with a specialization in Marriage, Couple and Family counseling was obtained from Western Michigan University. Through the state of Michigan, I hold dual licensure as a Limited Licensed Professional Counselor (LLPC) and a Limited License Marriage and Family Therapist (LLMFT).

Special Interests:
I have special interest in working with couples for relationship, marital and premarital counseling, along with individuals and families. Additionally, have an interest in career counseling to help people make meaning and find a fit with regard to how career, work and other parts of life intersect.

Insurances Accepted:
BC/BS, OPC, BCN, Great West Healthcare, Aetna, PPOM, Humana, NGS, Principal Financial, Some AFR
