I believe that all individuals regardless of age, or background have the strength and inner resilience to heal from pain and turbulence. I believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to discover the innate tools given to them to live a life full of meaning, and purpose.
I believe in a person-centered approach to therapy. I use a collaborative style that allows you to take the lead in therapy sessions, and assists you in discovering your own resolution through introspection, and an authentic therapist-client relationship. I am respectfully assertive, and transparent in interactions with my clients. When appropriate, I use an existential therapeutic approach.
I will help you face your anxieties, undesirable internal thoughts or worrying behaviors so that you are able to move to a place of responsibility and ownership. This allows you to be self aware, and assess the actions you can take to promote wellbeing and empowerment in your life. I will guide you to focus on the things within your control including fostering healthy relationships, love, creativity, and authenticity. I believe that through building self-confidence, validation, and finding the core pieces of your own identity you will be able to make decisions and develop through discovering what is most important to you.
I began my work in the field of HIV prevention, wellness, and medical management. I have a passion for public health including HIV education, holistic health, and physical fitness.
As a therapist, I have worked in both the outpatient, and school based environment. I also have experience as a home based therapist working with traumatized children, adolescents and their families. Additionally, I have experience working with seniors diagnosed with chronic mental illness, and the caregivers that support them.
My areas of interest involve working with adults, adolescents, LBGTQA and gender variant identified individuals. I have experience working with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, OCD, life transitions, relationships, self-identity and empowerment. I also have a special interest in nontraditional relationships within the framework of modern day society, and current social and relationship expectations effect on the emotional worlds of men, women, LBGTQ populations, etc. My goal is to empower one’s sense of identity in a way that allows you to act freely and intentionally in the world regardless of societal pressures.
I received both my Master of Social Work, and Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science at Western Michigan University. I am licensed by the State of Michigan, as a Master Level Social Worker (LMSW).
