My Professional Philosophy:
Everyone has value and deserves to be heard, understood and affirmed. In addition, everyone goes through times of transition, pain and difficulty that can shake that foundation and extra support is needed. A safe space is vital for all healthy relationships, but especially in order to effectively work through and heal from tough situations. I am passionate about providing a safe space for the whole person by listening well, accepting and encouraging individuals in whatever they are going through. I work collaboratively with the client in order to set and achieve goals in order to live authentically. I have a very relational style of therapy and utilize a variety of methods and strategies depending on client personality and needs.
I love working with middle school aged individuals and have done so for over 20 years in different capacities, including education, ministry and counseling. My experience also includes working with clients of all ages and issues both within a church setting, private practice and social service agencies. I have counseled adolescents dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, food disorders, age transitions, and just normal life difficulties. In addition, I have counseled adults with relational issues, anxiety, depression, transitions, and grief and have done marriage and family counseling as well. I have also assisted with group counseling programs dealing with a variety of relational topics.
I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in Physical Education and a minor in Elementary Education from Western Michigan University in December of 1999. I graduated from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary (Cornerstone University) in May of 2010 with a Master’s Degree in Counseling.
