A Message from CEO Sherry Thomas‑Cloud

March, 2020

Dear Friends:

Family & Children Services continues to monitor the Coronavirus (COVID‑19) pandemic and its impact on our communities. First and foremost, the health, well-being, and safety of our staff and those we serve is our highest priority.

We are committed to providing our services with as little disruption as possible. Our office buildings in Kalamazoo and Battle Creek are closed, except for our 24/7 Crisis Residential & Respite and Shelter Foster Care Homes. Following the guidance, recommendations, and mandates of federal, state, and local government and public health entities, Agency leadership has established new protocols to ensure we are taking the best possible course of action. Staff are working remotely and meetings and family visits are taking place via videoconference and enhanced health and sanitizing practices have been implemented.

We realize this can be a stressful time for individuals and families. We have attached a link here providing a Parent/Caregiver Guide from the National Traumatic Stress Network to help families cope with COVID-19. The most recent updates and resources on Coronavirus from the State of Michigan can be found at www.michigan.gov/Coronavirus. The CDC also has many resources at www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html.

As COVID-19 evolves locally, we are continuing to evaluate our protocols to meet emerging guidelines with the goal of keeping our clients, staff and community safe. We will continue to work closely with local agencies, organizations, and community partners, as well as state agencies and organizations throughout this health crisis.

Please be diligent in practicing preventive measures to keep you and your family healthy and safe. As always, our Crisis Services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to Kalamazoo County youth experiencing a mental health crisis by calling (269) 373‑6000 or (888) 373‑6200.

We are here for you and remain committed to our mission to support, strengthen and preserve the safety, well-being and dignity of children, individuals and families.
