The Gift of Tomorrow
When Caroline Julia Bartlett Crane established the Women’s Civic Improvement League 116 years ago—today known as Family & Children Services—she was probably not thinking about leaving a legacy. She was no doubt thinking about how to help her community be a great place to live for all of its residents.
Today we celebrate the legacy Bartlett has created and the impact it has had on so many lives. We also want to take time to consider how we, each and every one of us, can do the same.
What we do today can make a powerful and lasting difference tomorrow.
Planned giving can create a legacy for you, too, that will change the future for many.
Planned giving is an investment you plan today to ensure a better tomorrow for our communities’ vulnerable children and families. It means allocating a tax-deductible gift now that will be given at a later date:
- in a charitable bequest in a living trust or will;
- by designating Family & Children Services as a beneficiary in a retirement plan, annuity, pooled income funds, or in a life insurance policy;
- by making a memorial or tribute gift;
- with gifts of securities or property;
- or by creating an endowment fund.
Talk to your attorney when making or updating your will or living trust about how to include Family & Children Services. Your attorney can advise you on the correct language to include in your choice of bequest. Giving consultants at F&CS will also be happy to help.
Creating a Beneficiary
Planned giving is the best way to ensure that your chosen beneficiary—Family & Children Services—remains financially strong long into the future. Bequests keep our programs viable and growing.
For you, the benefactor, it is one of the easiest and most flexible ways to give. Your gift will keep hope alive for generations to come.
What’s Great Now About a Gift Given Later
Planned giving offers you, the benefactor, several advantages right away. A legacy gift doesn’t affect your finances during your lifetime. That’s why it is called deferred giving—you defer it to the future so that it doesn’t affect your finances today. And, in many cases, your gift is tax-deductible.
We call deferred giving donors the Visionary Club, because planned giving requires a vision for the future good of our community. Give a gift to Family & Children Services that will help keep families and children in our community safe and strong into perpetuity. It’s your legacy to create.
