My Professional Philosophy:
I believe we can change our lives one step at a time. I believe therapy should be a collaborative process. We will work together to create and achieve each person's goals. I feel parents and/or caregivers should be included in every aspect of the treatment process. The healing journey is less scary when we are all working together. I love seeing people put our plans into action and thriving!
I started my career working with disadvantaged youth at the Methodist Home. I have been with Family and Children Services for over 15 years in the Battle Creek and Marshall areas. My career focus has been with infants, children, teens and the family as a unit. I am an Infant Family Specialist endorsed by the Michigan Association for Infant Mental Health.
There are several ways in which I work with individual children, teens and adults as well as their families. I work with infants/toddlers and their caregivers to help them have a healthy attachment and to strengthen their bond. I enjoy using play therapy and art therapy tools when possible. I believe hands on learning for teaching parents skills and other skills is a wonderful way to learn. I also provide activities for infants/toddlers that help them reach developmental milestones. I work with children, teens and adults that have been abused (sexually, physically and emotionally), neglected or have suffered loss. I also aid them in learning skills to regulate their emotions, decrease depression and improve communication. The goal is to help them be successful at work, school and home.
