My Professional Philosophy:
My professional philosophy: I believe that all people are worthy of healthy relationships, love, respect, safety, and belonging. I meet my clients where they are when they enter my office and I work to facilitate a safe, judgment-free zone for them to be their genuine self. I will join my client on their journey and work collaboratively with each person, couple, or family to help them identify their goals and facilitate an environment in therapy where they are safe to explore their selves and their relationships in order for them to make the changes in their lives that they wish to see.

Experience:
I have worked as a couple and family therapist at Family & Children Services in Kalamazoo/Portage since 2010. My particular focus is with families, couples, parents, teens, and young adults. I am certified in an evidence-based parenting model called Parent Management Training Oregon Model (PMTO) where I provide one-on-one and group parenting training to parents. Further, I am a Gottman Educator, providing Couples Workshops based on Drs. John and Julie Gottman’s research-based and research-tested work with couples. I am also trained in Structural and Strategic Family Therapy through graduate school and post-graduate training. In addition to providing therapy, I teach undergraduate courses at Western Michigan University on a part-time basis in the Family and Consumer Sciences Department.

Special Interests:
My main areas of interest are working with families and couples. My work has primarily been focused on working with people to develop healthier relationships with those people in their lives whom they are close to. This is often done with the whole family or couple in session, but I also work with individuals who are seeking therapy to make changes in their lives and relationships as well. Some of my specific areas of interest include: couple therapy, pre-marital therapy, family therapy, blending families, co-parenting through divorce, LGBT individuals and couples, teenage and young adult issues, and parenting.

Education:
I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Concordia University in St. Paul, Minnesota in 2007. I received my Master’s Degree in Counseling with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Western Michigan University in 2010. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
